Term 1 2026

CEO Reflection - Term 1

In Psalm 37:4 David writes this: ‘Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.’

This is a verse many of us know well, but perhaps one that is sometimes misunderstood.

At first glance, it can sound almost transactional: Delight in God… and you will get what you want.

But David’s words are pointing to something far deeper.

This verse is not a promise that life will always go the way we hope, or that faith guarantees outcomes we desire. Rather, it invites us into a posture of trust and alignment.

To delight in the Lord is to find our deepest satisfaction in God, in His character, His purposes and His presence, rather than in circumstances or outcomes. It is about trusting Him with the whole of life and allowing our hearts to be shaped by His will, not our own.

When that happens, something profound begins to change.

“To delight in the Lord is to find our deepest satisfaction in God ........”

Instead of God simply granting our existing wishes or wants, He begins to reshape our desires themselves.

As we walk with Him – through Scripture, prayer, service and daily faithfulness – our hearts gradually become aligned with what He loves. Our longing shifts toward what is good, lasting and Christ-like.

So, the promise of Psalm 37:4 is not that God gives us whatever we want. Rather, as we make Him our greatest joy, He forms in us the right desires and satisfies the deepest longings of our hearts.

This truth resonates across Scripture: Jesus reminds us to ‘seek first the Kingdom’.

Paul speaks of learning contentment in all circumstances.

And Augustine famously wrote: ‘You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.’

As we continue through this term, may we remember that our shared work is not simply about outcomes, pressures or achievements.

It is about faithfully serving in a way that reflects God’s heart.

And, as we do, we can trust that He is not only guiding our path – He is shaping our desires.
